Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, our Delft3D FM - Coastal Hydrodynamic Modelling course introduces grid generation for flexible grids, unique bathymetry interpolation methods, quickly setting up and running 2D and 3D coastal D-Flow FM models and analysing results using the Delft3D FM 2D3D build-in post-processing tools and third-party tools.
During this course, you will have the opportunity to explore the cutting-edge features of our new modelbuilder tool, which is now conveniently accessible on Github. Our modelbuilder, a Python-based marvel, revolutionizes hydrodynamic modeling by streamlining the process. It seamlessly combines the generation and refinement of unstructured grids, effortlessly integrates tidal and ocean models into your boundaries, and efficiently fetches and converts ERA5 data for meteorological forcing. In essence, it's a game-changer, saving you precious time and effort. In addition to this, we will also cover post-processing of model data with Python.
Objective of the course
Running 2D and 3D hydrodynamic models.
Course subjects
- Introduction into grid generation for flexible grids
- Introduction on bathymetry interpolation
- Set-up of hydrodynamic model and running this model
- Introduction on postprocessing.
This course is aimed at
Project engineers, project leaders and researchers.
Online format
This course is a blended educational experience, meaning that both self-paced modules and instructor led sessions are held. During 3 consecutive interactive sessions, you’ll progress from the basics of grid generation to running and analysing 2D and 3D hydrodynamic models. Course participants will be provided with the Delft3D FM Suite + course license one month file valid as a starting point, and access to the online course materials for 1 year.
In preparation of the training, we’ll send you all the material and will ask you to install the Delft3D FM Suite on your own machine. While attending the training, it will be essential that you have a sufficiently fast internet connection to support a video call, as well as a headset.
The use of Windows is required for the Delft3D courses. For the Technical Specifications of the Delft3D FM Suite, click here.
